Facial cleansing, the one minute rule

It is well known that facial cleansing is a fundamental element in the care of our skin, but the real question is: how do you do it? Washing your face with water alone, for example, is not enough, as water alone is not able to deeply and completely eliminate makeup residues, dead cells or various toxins that accumulate on the epidermis. The cleaning time, therefore, should include:

Only with these steps, in fact, is it possible to remove dirt, smog, pollution, make-up or excess sebum that is deposited on the skin every day. And that, if it is not eliminated more than thoroughly, risks gradually depleting the skin and clogging pores, preventing it from breathing and regenerating, leading to the formation of blemishes and a loss of radiance.

That's why it's a good habit to cleanse your face morning and evening, performing careful skincare and using a cleanser that is effective and well tolerated by your skin type.

How many minutes to wash your face?

Doing all the steps, however, does not mean one hundred percent being able to wash your face well. This is where time comes into play: too little cleaning, for example, may not eliminate all traces of impurities on the epidermis.

At the same time, however, prolonging the washing too long could irritate the skin and weaken it, making it more prone to external agents, which also happens when you choose too aggressive detergents. On the most superficial part of the skin, in fact, there is the hydrolipidic film, a mixture of water and fats that is naturally produced by the dermis in order to stay hydrated.

When you use too strong cleansers or exaggerate in the timing of facial cleansing, in addition to removing dirt, part of the hydrolipidic film is also removed, leaving the skin exposed and vulnerable, which causes dryness of the part, the sensation of tightness, greater ease of flaking and local or generalized redness.

That's why it's important to use the minute rule, which is the best compromise between using a mild detergent (and not taking too long to do it).

What is the minute rule?

Using gentle, surfactant-free cleansers on the face can give the impression that your skin is never really clean if you don't let the product work properly on the skin itself.

That's why, taking a minute to cleanse your face, massaging it and letting the cleanser penetrate well into the skin, is the ideal time to remove dirt from the epidermis and without damaging it.

To do this, simply apply the cleanser to the face, massage it with light touches and emulsify the soap itself with water, and then proceed with the actual rinsing. A bit like you would do with a toothbrush on your teeth or a shampoo on your hair.

How to choose the right cleanser for facial cleansing?

What makes the difference is the detergent you opt for. You need to choose a cleanser that meets the needs of your skin, taking into account your needs and your skin type: oily, combination, dry, sensitive.

In general, it is always better to go for gentle, as natural as possible, products that soothe the skin as well as cleanse it and that take care of it gently. If you have doubt you can get advice directly from a dermatologist and a professional.

How do you do daily facial cleansing?

In daily facial cleansing, the minute rule is important, but it's not just these 60 seconds that make the difference. The ingredients you use and the gestures you make are also important.

Using only the "dry" cleaner is not a good solution. And this is because, in order for the cleaning product to fully perform its function, it must be combined with a lot of water. That's why it's important to cleanse your face with your hands and with the skin of your face already wet.

To do this, simply pour soap into the palm of your hand and add a little water to it. Once done, you will have to create a foam by rubbing your hands together and applying it directly to the face, making circular movements on the skin and massaging for 60 seconds. Then rinse everything with plenty of lukewarm water, never boiling or cold, and dab your face with a clean towel.

A deep but gentle facial cleansing that takes care of the skin and gives it a healthier, cleaner and brighter appearance day after day, in just 60/120 seconds a day.
